Should I parent my baby or make an adoption plan?
This is only a decision that you can make. However, we are here to listen to your concerns and give you someone with whom you can talk through your options. It is our goal to provide you with as much information as possible so that you can make a wise and well-thought-out decision. We are a non-profit ministry whose mission is to help women in times of an unexpected pregnancy, not find babies for adoptive couples. We will not pressure you regarding your decision nor judge you.
What is the cost of Agape’s services?
None. All services are provided at no charge to birth parents.
Can you help with medical and financial expenses?
Yes. Agape will work with you to find options and solutions for the issues and needs you and your baby may have.
Can I choose my adoptive parents?
Yes! Agape respects your right to guide this critical aspect of planning for your baby. You will share what is important to you, issues such as race, religion, hobbies, culture, and other children, and we will present you with family profiles that match your desires for your consideration.
Does Agape provide open adoptions?
Yes, if that is the choice that you wish to make. You will decide the type of ongoing contact you would like to have with the adopting family. This could range from exchanging pictures and letters through the agency to ongoing direct contact and visitation.
Will it be a Christian family?
Yes! It is important to us to know that the children we help make an adoption plan for grow up in families who will show the child God’s love.
How will I be sure that my child will be well taken care of?
Our professional staff of licensed social workers does a thorough assessment and prepares each family who are seeking to adopt. And because you can choose open adoption, you can see for yourself what wonderful parents they will be.
If I chose adoption will my child hate me for my decision?
If this is not the time in your life where you feel that you can be the parent your baby needs, making an adoption plan and thoughtfully choosing a family that can provide a loving, stable home for your child is one of the most loving things you can do for your child. You will also have the opportunity to know your child and over time, your child will know about you and will always know how much you cared by choosing a loving family for him/her.
Will anyone find out about the adoption?
All services at Agape are confidential. The only people who will know are the ones that YOU have chosen to tell.
Will the birth father need to be involved?
Under Alabama Adoption Laws, birth fathers do have legal rights that will have to be addressed. Your Agape counselor can help explain what actions should be taken considering the information that you are able to provide about the birth father. We welcome the participation of the birth father in helping to form the adoption plan if that is what the two of you choose.
What if I have used alcohol or drugs while pregnant or my baby will have some medical/developmental problems?
We encourage you to get prenatal care as soon as possible during your pregnancy to better the chances that you will have a healthy baby. Ongoing drug use can increase the chances for long-term disabilities for the baby. If your baby is born with special needs there are adoptive families who are willing and trained to parent a child with special needs.
